Michael Cohen cut a plea deal just days before he was arrested for his role in the campaign financial scandal. In a scandal this extensive, he may not have been the only person under investigation and now reports are confirming that someone else is in fact involved.
It has been confirmed that this new player is a member of the Trump Organization and the Trump family. Brad Heath of USA Today flagged the grand jury news in the latest filings.
The Department of Justice has revealed in court filings that there is an “ongoing grand jury investigation” directly related to the election payoff to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal on behalf of Donald Trump. Cohen already pleaded guilty, so this investigation is no longer centered around him. The person who’s being investigated was directly involved in these payoffs.
Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti pointed out that Cohen’s plea agreement “discussed other Trump Organization employees who assisted Cohen.” Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg was involved, but he’s already been given immunity in exchange for cooperation in the case. That really only leaves one option.
The Wall Street Journal reported that “Mr. Trump told Mr. Cohen to coordinate the legal response with Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons, and another outside lawyer who had represented Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization in other matters.”
Eric Trump could very well be the person that’s the target of this “ongoing grand jury investigation”.
