According to CBS correspondent Major Garrett on Tuesday’s CBS This Morning, on the cusp of midterm elections, President Donald Trump is set to hold two rallies a day in an attempt to nationalize them, all for the sake of keeping the Republicans in control of Congress.
However, as Garrett went on to say, the caravan of migrants heading to the U.S. border may actually hurt the Republicans in states like California in the long run.
“In House races and maybe in the most important place for House races, California, it works against the president and Republican interests,” Garrett explained. “You can’t think of this issue as all or nothing. It is a base mobilizer in certain places, it may hurt [Republicans] in other places.”
In regards to Trump nationalizing the election, the CBS correspondent claimed we’ve never seen anything quite like this before.
“Usually, if it’s a midterm, one party is up, the other party is depressed,” he said.
“He will do two a day in the six days up to the election,” Garrett explained further. “That’s intense personalization of national politics Trump’s way.”
“He wants to make it [a referendum on Trump],” he added. “His supporters look at that and say, ‘He’s out there strong and bold, we need to be out there for him.’”
